Roman Loranc was born in Bielso-Biala, Poland and has work in the California’s Central Valley since 1984. This exhibition of Roman’s work celebrates nature as much as the resiliance of the human spirit.
In his own words: “I am fascinated by the ancient churches of my homeland. These are holy spaces where millions of people have prayed for hundred of years. They are places of great humility, and remind us how brief our lives are. I feel the same way when I am photographing ancient groves of native oaks in California. I was unaware of this when I began, but on reflection, I think the oaks are as sacred as the old cathedrals. They are sacred in that they have survived for so many years. I am aware that the natives of California held all living things as divine.”
This represents the first comprehensive exhibition of Roman Loranc’s body of work in Texas. The artist will be present to introduce the work and to sign copies of his latest book “Two-hearted oaks” Heyday Books, 2003.
